PATATES DEL BORRON

Post by Marta Elena Díaz García »

Hi, :D
This is not really a cooking recipe but in the country it is common to make it.
After cleaning from weeds a sown field, the weeds are collected into a mound and burned. As most of the plants are still green, burning takes place slowly. In the centre of the burning mound (the "borrón") some potatoes are introduced to be roasted. They are eaten in the same field, during a break in the work or after it was finished. It is common to accompany the potatoes with cheese and cider. They are delicious.
It may seem strange  but.....I love the smell of the burning weeds!
Marta.
