Raschella

Post by Sweeney »

I just received a letter from a very long time resident of Clarksburg, WV. She informed me that Anna Menendez did not marry Alfred Raschella, but his brother "Babe" Raschella. Alfred did have children named Loretta and Alfred, but they are not related to me.

Anna and "Babe" Raschella had a daughter named Patty. Patty married a man named Alonso and they reportedly live in Fairless Hills, PA.

I was also told my cousin Allie Menendez married a woman named Jean and they had three children named Joe, Barbara, and Kathleen. They moved to New York State.

She also said Joe Menendez died young without any children.

Finally she said my cousin Reggie Menendez's daughter Vera Elizabeth married and was widowed with two sons and a daughter. They lived in Mansfield, Ohio and then moved to Texas.

I am still trying to contact the descendants of any of these cousins. I would like to exchange family information and photos. Does anybody know anything about these families? THANKS! 8)

Football

Dear Jomaguca:

There is a possibility, but not all Verdins in America are from Spain. There is a large group of people with the surname Verdin in Louisiana and another in South Carolina. These people are of French descent. There are also some Verdins in Ohio who are of Belgium descent.

But I confident that most, if not all, Verdins of Spanish descent in America are probably related to us.

Dear Jomaguca:

If the Football player is of Spanish ancestry, he could be related to Francisco Verdin (brother of our grandmothers) or he could be related to Luis Verdin Lopez (brother to our great grandfather: Guillermo Verdin Lopez). These are the only people with the surname Verdin that came to America, but who I have not contacted yet. Luis Verdin Lopez died in Spain, but his wife Prudencia Lopez brought their children to America and they lived in East St. Louis. Francisco Verdin died young, leaving his wife Aurora Prado to raise their many children alone. Their last known location was Donora, PA. I have not contacted their descendants yet.

Hi, Sweeney,
Are you still looking for the family of John Gutiérrez and Concha Menéndez? I think their daughter, Margaret, and some of their Margaret's aunts are still living in Harrison County WV.

Hola Sweeney,
Sweeney wrote:My great Aunt Elvira Verdin and her husband Augustin Menendez had a daughter named Concha. Today I discovered Concha Menendez married a man named John Gutierrez. They had at least two children named Bertha and Margaret Gutierrez. They lived in Donora, PA in the 1930s.

I also learned that Concha's older brother Rodrigo changed his name to Reginald Menendez. In the 1930's he was living in the Simpson district of Harrison County, WV. Reginald was married to a woman named Julia and he had a daughter named Elizabeth Vera Menendez. Julia was born in Pennsylvania, but her parents were both from Lithuania. I searched the Social Security Death Records and found a Julia and Reginald Menendez had died in the 1980's in Houston, Texas. I am am pretty certain this is my cousin. Does anybody have any information on this family? I would love to contact any descendants of this family. I have many photos of the family I would like to share. THANKS! 8)

¡GRACIAS! 8)
