Hello from Mississippi: Bridgette Menendez

My name is Bridgette Menendez.
My husband's great grandfather Jose Menendez moved
from Spain to the US with his wife Etelvina Galan Lopez in about 1914 and settled in St. Louis , MO.
We're interested in his family and his wifes ()family in Spain. They are said to have lived in Oviedo in the Ellis Island Passenger
Documents.

You might try contacting the spanish society in South St. Louis. There is a link to their site somewhere on the forum.

On a side note, my Great-Grandfather was coming to the U.S. to see a friend called Jose Menendez who was staying in Clarksburg WV at the time it may be a longshot. That this Menendez may be the same person. My family lived in Fairmont City IL, just on the other side of the river from St. Louis.

Keep in mind that at the time Oviedo was used as the name of Asturias as well as the name of the city in Asturias, so your family may have lived at some distance from today's Oviedo.

The story was that my father in law tells is that they were from Madrid but
the Ellis Island Files and some research Kathi Menendez Law has done puts
them in Oviedo. so I don't know, it's really confusing.
