Maria Artime Ovies

Post by Sweeney »

Bob,

You mentioned your great grandmother was named Maria Artime Ovies, do you know who she was married to? I ask because my grandmother's mother was named Maria Artime Ovies. Maria was the daughter of Miguel Artime and Florentina Ovies. Unless I missed it, you never mentioned the name of your great grandfather. :?:

Maria Artime Ovies was married to José Martínez Alonso, who was a native of Muros, 46 years old and living in Salinas when my grandfather was born in 1894. (He would have been born about 1848.) His parents were Gregorio Martínez (from Muros) and Aurelia Alonso (also from Muros). They were both living in Salinas in 1894.

I have some of the birth and death certificates from my family, and will make copies of whatever I have for you.

Artime family

Post by Sweeney »

Bob,
I would love any documents on the family you can provide. I will email you my address.

I had a question about Maria Artime Ovies. I am confused...could Miguel Artime and Florentina Ovies have had two daughters named Maria? At first I thought your great grandmother Maria and My great Grandmother Maria were the same people, but they are both married to different men. What do you think? My gg-grandparents Miguel and Florentina were from San Martin de Podes. They probably were born in the 1840s. :?

Manuel Artime Ovies

Post by Sweeney »

You know, I think there is a possibility that Manuel Artime Ovies is the brother to my great grandmother Maria Victoria Artime Ovies. Perhaps he is an older brother. My grandmother's godparent was Josefa Artime. My grandmother was born in 1891. Josefa could be my grandmother's cousin and godparent. Could an older cousin be a godparent to a child? :?

Godparents

Post by Bob »

I don't see any reason why someone could not serve as a godparent to his or her younger cousin. I have done so myself, but am not certain what the custom is in Asturias. Perhaps some of our Asturian friends could enlighten us.
