Seeking Your Help on Genealogical Terms

One of the many shortcomings of electronic translators is the fact that often they translate literally without understanding terms in context. This is especially true when trying to translate genealogical terms from English into Spanish.

First cousin, second cousin, great Aunt, great great grandparents don't get good results. I just tried great grandmother and the translator gave me "grande abuela" instead of "bisabuela" and great great grandmother comes out as "grande grande abuela" instead of "tartarabuela."

I worked with Art and Bob, and we've come up with this list of terms that might be helpful to those doing genealogical research in Spanish and Asturianu. We're still missing some terms, so if you can help out, please send me a PM (private message option at the membership list) and I'll update the list until it is complete.

Thanks!

Sweeny,

I tried to access your link, but one first has to have a Yahoo i.d., and then also be a member of the group AsturiasGen. Could you ask for permission to copy their list so that we could make it available to visitors to the Asturianus.org forums?
