Looking for Cousins

I have recently discovered that many of my grandparent's brothers and sisters also came to America. I would love to get in contact with the descendants of my grandparent's siblings.

My grandmother (Florentina Verdin) had two sisters and two brothers who came and stayed in America. They are:

Elvira Verdin Artimez. She was married to Augustin Menendez. They had the following children: Jose, Rodrigo, Concha, Allie and Anna Menendez. They lived in St. Louis for a while and then ended up in Clarksburg or Spelter, West Virginia.

The other sister is:

Josefa Verdin (AKA Josephina or Pepa). She was married to Julio Ovies. They had the following children: Josephina, Martina and Julia. They also lived in St. Louis for a while and then moved to Moundsville, WV. I believe the daughter Martina married a man named Edward Pastilong. Julia married a man with the surname Gamble.

Francisco (Frank) Verdin Artimez came to America in the early 1900s. In 1910 he was living in Illinois with his wife Aurora Prado. He had a son named Frank Jr. By 1930, Aurora is listed as a widow in the Washington County, PA census. She had the following children:Frank, Maria Teresa, Olga, Vera, Joseph, Herman and Charlie.

The last brother to come to America was Manuel Verdin Artimez. I do not know what happened to this brother. I am pretty sure he was dead before 1926 because his father's death certificate does not list him as a surviving child of the deceased.

My grandfather (Donato Artimez) had a brother named Manuel Artimez Menendez who lived in Moundsville, WV and a brother Jose Artimez Menendez who lived in St. Louis.

He also had a sister named Maria Artimez Menendez who married a man named Jose Muniz. They had two children born in Spain: Jose and Maria. I believe they went to St. Louis, but I do not know where they went from there.

If you are related to any of these people, I would love to hear from you. I would like to exchange family history data and photos.
THANKS! 8)

GRACIAS! 8)

Donna, noted with interest on your search for a Menendez family. In Spelter there were as many as three or four Menendez families that as far as I know were not related. My grandparents and my parents lived in Spelter, and next door to my parents was another Menendez family and we were not related.

I will pass on to my uncles the Menendez names that you mentioned to see if they know of them, and will let you know.

The Edward Pastilong that you mentioned is probably the same Edward Pastilong who is the Athlectic Director for West Virginia University, along with another person of Spanish decent, Rich Rodriquez, the football coach.

Thanks for your help. If the Edward Pastilong you are referring to is still alive, then he is probably the son of Martina Ovies and Edward Pastilong. I have recently discovered Martina and Edward are buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville, WV.

Thanks again! 8)

¡Gracias otra vez! 8)

My great aunt Maria Artime Menendez was married to Jose Muniz. They had at least two children named Jose and Maria. They came to America in the early 1900s and lived in Illinois. Today I talked to Maria's niece and she told me Maria and her family returned to Salinas, Asturias, Spain around 1918. Unfortunately, Maria died of the Spanish Flu soon after her return. Her family remained in Spain. I would love to get in contact with the descendants of Maria Artime Menendez and Jose Muniz. Please email me if you know of this family. THANKS! 8)

¡Gracias! 8)

I am also looking for the descendants of my grandmother's aunt Prudencia Lopez. My grandparents went and lived with her in St. Louis in 1913. Prudencia Lopez was the widow of Luis Verdin (my great grandfather's brother). When she came to America she went by her husband's surname Verdin. In the 1930 census, Prudencia Verdin worked in a shoe factory in East St. Louis. She had the following children living with her in St. Louis: Enrique, Victor, Avelina, and Luis Verdin. If anybody is related to this family I would love to hear from you! Thanks! 8)

My great Aunt Elvira Verdin and her husband Augustin Menendez had a daughter named Concha. Today I discovered Concha Menendez married a man named John Gutierrez. They had at least two children named Bertha and Margaret Gutierrez. They lived in Donora, PA in the 1930s.

I also learned that Concha's older brother Rodrigo changed his name to Reginald Menendez. In the 1930's he was living in the Simpson district of Harrison County, WV. Reginald was married to a woman named Julia and he had a daughter named Elizabeth Vera Menendez. Julia was born in Pennsylvania, but her parents were both from Lithuania. I searched the Social Security Death Records and found a Julia and Reginald Menendez had died in the 1980's in Houston, Texas. I am am pretty certain this is my cousin. Does anybody have any information on this family? I would love to contact any descendants of this family. I have many photos of the family I would like to share. THANKS! 8)

¡GRACIAS! 8)

To date I have had excellent luck finding descendants of my great Aunts and Uncles. There are still two families I am still searching for.

I still would love to contact the descendants of my great aunt Elvira Verdin Artimez who married Augustin Menendez. They lived in the Simpson District (town of Clarksburg or Spelter?) of West Virginia. They had the following children: Jose (Joseph), Rodrigo (Riggy), Anna, Alli, and Concha (Connie).

I know Rodrigo married a woman named Julia and had at least one child named Elizabeth Vera Menendez.

Concha married John Guiterrez and had two girls named Bertha and Margaret.

Ann married a man with the surname Roschella. I know they moved to Pennsylvania. My mother cannot remember if they had children.

The other family I am looking for are the descendants of Francisco Verdin Artimez and his wife Aurora Prado. They had the following children: Frank, Teresa, Olga, Vera, Joseph, Herman and Charlie.

Originally they lived in Collinsville, Illinois. They were living with Aurora's parents: Joseph and Generosa Prado. Around 1920 they moved to Donora, PA. By 1930 Aurora is listed as a Widow. From there I do not know what happened to the family.

If anybody has any information on these families please contact me. THANKS! 8)

I recently received a copy of an old family photo from a cousin in Spain. In the photo is identified a cousin who supposedly is living in the USA. His name is Armandine Alvarez. He is the son of Marina Muniz and Armando Alvarez.

I was also told another American cousin named Angelina Muniz married a man named Leo Cimmerman and had two children named Elizabeth and John. Elizabeth supposedly married a man named Asher and had a son named Shane Asher. Does anybody know this family?

I would love to contact these families to exchange information and photos. 8)

I think I found one of my cousins in the 1930 Census. A Joe Menendez and his wife Alfreda M. Menendez were living in Anmoore, Harrison, WV in 1930. Joe was working as a bookkeeper at the steel mill.

I think this may be my cousin because he is listed as being born in Spain in 1901, the same as my cousin Jose Menendez.

Does anybody know anything about Joe and Alfreda Menendez? I would appreciate any information. THANKS! 8)

I received an email the other day from a lady whose husband grew up in Anmoore, WV in the '40s & '50s. She said her husband remembered my cousins Jose (Joe) and Rodrigo (Riggy) Menendez.

Her husband recalls Joe Menendez married a woman named Alfreda, but everybody called her Frieda. He remembers they had a little boy named Joey who he believes graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1950 or '51.

Does anybody know Joey Menendez who graduated from Bridgeport High School in the early '50s? I am hoping to find Joey Menendez so we can exchange genealogical information and photos. THANKS! 8)

I just received another email concerning my cousins who lived in Anmoore, WV. The person who wrote me said he believes my cousin Anna Menendez married a man named Alfred Raschella and had two children named Loretta and Alfred Raschella Jr.

Anna's brother Allie Menendez changed his name to Alex and he had three children named Joey, Barbara and Patty Menendez.

Do any of these names sound familiar to anybody? I would love to contact these cousins. 8)
