Hello everyone, my name is Patrick Davila and I'm 34 years old. I currently live in Easton, Pa with my wife Tina and my 4 month old son Marcus. I'm American born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y. but my heritage is Spanish (75% Asturian, 25% Castillian/Gallego). My father was born in Puerto Rico, where my grandparents emigrated to in the 1920's. They moved to N.Y.C. in the 1940's. My father joined the U.S.A.F. and was stationed in Madrid during the early 60's. He met my mother (originally from Gijion) and got married. After being dishcharged from the military he became a N.Y.C policeman and they moved to Staten Island, N.Y.. Most of my mothers family live in Madrid but I also have family in Merida, Caceres and Gijion. All of my fathers family are on this side of the Atlantic. Most of my cousins live outside Washington D.C.. I have been to Spain many times but have never been to the north. I plan on going back very soon to introduce my son Marcus to his Spanish family (my grandmother in particular). I definitely want to spend time in Asturias, Galicia and the Basque country. Do you guys ever have get togethers? I would love to meet other Asturian/Spanish Americans. I know my parents and siblings would be interested in attending as well.
Thanks and take care. :)

Hello and welcome, Patrick,
I don't know if there has been a major get-together in the past, but I also believe it would be nice for those who come visit Asturias to let the other forum members know, so we can meet and have a bottle (or several) of "sidra" together.

Hola y bienvenido, Patrick,

Hello, Patrick, and welcome!

The idea of a get-together has been bouncing around for a while but we've not done it formally. I have had the great, great pleasure of meeting some of the members living in Asturias (Agustín, Antón, Carlos, Elisa, -- and I should have met with Xosenrique but I didn't see his email in time) and one member in DC (Alfonso). These have been wonderful get-togethers, so I'm all for them.

There is an Asturian center in NYC or NJ near NYC. And there is a Spanish group in DC. In Clarksburg WV there is an annual Spanish picnic, and I think they still have monthly meetings, too. There may be other things going on around the country, too, especially in Florida, like around St. Augustine where there are many Asturians.

Several people have suggested that we have a gathering to celebrate our first anniversary (March 19).

I've written another post about ideas for ways to get together here:
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewtop ... =1859#1859
I'd be great if others were to add their ideas to that post, too.

¡Hola, Patrick, y bienvenida!

Hi Patrick

I will be delighted if when you visit Xixón you come to see my workshop, and will invite you to a few bottles of cider in Cimavilla. Since Art knows, I am very good giving explanations!

PD: Xixón is the name in Asturian of the city of Gijon, the X is pronounced as in English SH = SHISHOON.
