How do I delete my account and posts? I can't find a place to do that. Thank you.

Pruebas de ascendencia genética en Asturias

The National Genographic Society's Genographic Project has come to Asturias to find the deep ancestral genetic origins of the Asturian people. Here is a video covering the event: El Proyecto Genográfico de la Sociedad Nacional Genográfico ha llegado a Asturias para encontrar los profundos orígenes g...

Yes, I definitely did. I got to meet all my great-grandfather's surviving relatives, which was two or three generations. They took us out to eat and showed us around for two days. We even stayed with them. It was a great time.

Yes, I definitely wanted to stay there. I enjoyed the Spanish culture very much. (Well, not so much Barcelona, actually, which was a bit snobby to me.) The climate of Asturias was very much like that of coastal Oregon and New England, plus it looks very similar, in terms of all the craggy rocks and ...

Finally

I finally went there and saw it, and met my great-grandfather's relatives. It was amazing. I saw his family home which has been there since 1790, and there was an horreo beside it that had been there since 1740. I drank sidra and saw Cangas de Oniz and Gijon and Covadonga, and the whole thing was ju...

I think this video is depressing and horrific. I think it's a portrait of a once-proud region that is now a smouldering crater of cultural backwardness, thanks to the deranged relentlessness of a quiet and demure little warden of death named Francisco Franco. Were it not for Franco and his ilk, four...

Terechu, I will indeed be changing my name to something more "acceptably" non-Spanish European-sounding. Being that Gonzalez would be phonetically pronounced "Gon-THA-leth" in Spain, I will be picking something that contains the hard "G" sound at the beginning, as well ...

Raquel, I don't find your story hard to believe (although how your daughter can be both FROM Cuba and NOT FROM Cuba at the same time, utterly mystifies me). This is because my great-uncle, who is the American-born middle son of my great-grandfather Aurelio (who came to America in 1912 from Candamo, ...

Raquel, Well, please understand that after high school graduation, the racism comes out in full force and your grandchild will need all the "enchufes" he can get to be able to even make money to support himself. I am 41 years old and have a bachelor's degree from Duke University (which I'm...

Thank you for speaking up about this -- I didn't arrive at my comments hastily or lightly. And while I understand that obviously there are people here who say they've not had the kind of experience I'm talking about, I do tend to think it probably affects the younger generations, and the males much ...

Well, actually, they can do even more discrimination now. When you (e)mail in your resume to human resources, behind closed doors they can look at your last name at the top of the resume, throw it in the trash, and then send you a polite rejection letter. Neat and tidy. But then again, I guess they ...

Thanks, Art. And no, I've never been able to do anything like that. My parents moved away from Tampa as soon as they could, before I was born. They felt trapped in family dynamics that felt were always just going to drag them down. So I grew up in the more Anglo-Saxon parts of Florida and North Caro...

Re: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Raquel... you are very sweet to give me those kind words. :-) Ronzalez, you must look yourself in a mirror and you must say " I am intelligent, I am good, I am #1 " you must do it several times a day and in a few weeks you will feel very good about yourself! so at least this way...
