Frank, According to the archives' guide of Asturias parishes, there are books available in the Santiago de Boal parish since: - 1590 for baptisms - 1728 for marriages - 1710 for deaths However, you should keep in mind that the fact they have a book starting in 1590 does not guarantee that the book f...

Sorry for that. The number refers to the starting year of the section of the archive; e.g., you can find baptismal records in La Isla as early as 1694. However, there are many gaps (i.e., missed books) in the archives and you would be very lucky if these two parishes have all the books. Best Regards.

Eleanore, As Bob told you, there are two Santoveñas in Asturias but only the one in Llanes worth a genealogical visit. - Santoveña (Llanes) belongs to Vibaño parish and they have Baptismal Records since 1627, Marriage since 1696 and Death since 1696. All the books were located at the parish as of 20...

Eleonore, First of all, the surname Crespo comes from Castilla. The town you found near Avila (Crespos) is in fact in Avila province. Being born around 1850 you can only find him in the parish records. Unfortunately, there are around 969 parishes in Asturias and therefore it is impossible to check t...

Veronique, If he died in Barcelona city, you can't verify this information, as of today, in Barcelona Civil Registry (CR). The reason is that currently only the information after Dec. 1966 is computerized and when you ask them for earlier information they request both the exact date and the city qua...

Emilio, Terechu is right when suggesting you to start contacting the parishes because this is the first logical step. In my previous mail, I forgot to say that I had checked in the guide for the Archivo Diocesano that the old books from Collía parish had been sent to Oviedo. The only books you shoul...

As all the people you are looking for were born before 1870 you can't expect to find their birth certificates in the Civil Record. Your only source are the Parish Records. As you go deeper in your genealogical tree you'll realize two facts: most of your ancestors were born in a very small geographic...

Sue, If his Spanish full name was Francisco Bances Fernández his parents should be José Bances (not Fernández) and Justa Fernández. As you have an exact birthdate, you can go back in your Uncle's family tree in Asturias. There is a change to find his birth record in the Avilés' Civil Record (CR) bec...

It is important to figure up if your great-grandparents were born before or after 1870. If they were born after 1870 you can find them in the Civil Record (CR) of the concejo of Pravia where it is easier (and cheaper) to find people birth certificates. Please, be aware that in the period 1870- 1880 ...

Art,

The concejo of Valdés was called concejo of Luarca from January 1909 until December 1985 when the Municipality of Valdés decided to recover the traditional name by unanimous decision.

In my opinion, there are not so many changes in the name of the concejos.

Jackie, If you want to familiarize yourself with the area, I recommend you the Vivir Asturias website. If you look into the concejo de Valdés you'll find the addresses of the Registro Civil and parishes, the different poblaciones (including Carlangas) and a map of the area with some zoom. Regarding ...
