Tampa Churches

The 2 most likely churches in Tampa would be Sacred Heart Church or Our lady of Perpetual Help Church. I don't know if they always had those names. DeMeza is a name I've heard here in Tampa. Have you tried looking for other variations of the name?

Do you have any other information about them? Do you know their names or birthdates? There is a special collection of photographs of the early members of the Centro Asturiano de Tampa in the University of South Florida library online. Here is the web address- http://guides.lib.usf.edu/content.php?pi...

Funny that you should say that about Oviedo, Florida- because when I have used the Spanish pronunciation- no one knows where I am talking about or they "correct" me and say oh you mean "Oh-vee-do"!

Tampa Cigar Industry

There is an excellent book called: Tampa Cigar Workers- by Robert P. Ingalls and Louis A. Perez, Jr; (I'm sorry I could not figure out how to underline the title of the book) that tells the history of the Cuban, Spanish and Italian immigrants that created the cigar industry in Tampa.

I'm sorry- I hope you don't think I'm making light of your situation. That was one prominent example in Tampa of someone who felt the need to change his name for whatever reason. Everyone certainly still knows that he was Spanish. It seems like we have a very similar background = I am the second gen...

You could follow the example of Cesar Gonzmart of the Columbia Restaurant and combine names. His name was Gonzalez Martinez. Being from Tampa, I am having a very difficult time understanding this whole thread. There so many people here with Spanish last names, I am surprised that you have to deal wi...

Sidra El Gaitero

I was able to purchase several bottles of Sidra El Gaitero at a local meat market here in Tampa. I happen to work at Publix and have never seen it in our stores. I noticed on the label that it is imported by R. M. Distributors, Inc. of Miami, Fl. 33144. (305) 261-4895. It is 5% alcohol and is artifi...
