My deceased mother-in-law a native Asturian always stuffed her turkey with browned ground beef mixed with chorizos, chopped onion, garlic , green pepper and green olives stuffed with pimento,red wine and bread crumbs. Does anyone else do this or something similar?

Hi Audubon...Did your mother-in-law ever live in Cuba? The stuffing sounds alot like the very popular Cuban dish...Picadillo...it is traditionally eaten over white rice, but I've heard of adapting it to other uses. As a separate dish, you would exclude the chorizo and the bread crumbs.

Sounds good...I may try it next Thanksgiving!!!!

No, she never lived in Cuba. I make this with every turkey and you can also make it into meatloaf, just add a beaten egg. Jane

The Miami/Cuban stuffin is something like that...

You sautee some garlic and onions with butter, add some little pieces of celery, then you take the garlic, onions and celery and put it separate,you
fry some pieces of italian sausage, you add the garlic, onions and celery,
some dry wine, let it cool.
You take like 1 part of ground beef, 1 part of ground ham, and
1 part of ground pork ( equal amounts of each one ).You mix
all together, you add the garlic, onion, etc you add 3 whole eggs,
I add like 2 cups of chicken broth, some dry plums ( pitted prunes)
you add bread crums depending the amount you are going to make, you
add the seasons you like.You start stuffing the turkey...
I do not eat red meat...so I make the recipe with ground ham, ground
pork and ground turkey.
If you know how to take away the bones from the turkey...let me tell you
this recipe is so delicious that you can slice the whole turkey and the
slices come out beautiful with the prunes in different places....

You cut garlic, onions, green olives, capers you add ground beef
dry wine, tomato sauce, you mix all together and put it in a pan
( without oil ) you just cook it all together and it will cook in its
own juices....I also add parshley, cilantro or culantro...sometimes
I add some raisins...The only condiment I add is some cumin and
a splash of oregano...I do not put salt on it because the olives and
the capers have salt.
You serve it next to the white rice....so people will start eating and
mixing both.
Some people like to add ham or chorizo, etc...but then it will be
a variation of the original recipe.

My friend gave me this recipe long time ago and I love it.

I put in a blender onion, garlic, dry wine, parshley, cumin, a splash of
oregano, tomato sauce, capers,3 whole eggs....mix all together.
You take the ground beef you are going to use, I use ground ham,
ground pork, ground turkey ( equal parts) you put them together and
add the mix you already have in the blender...mix all together and
add bread crumbs ( I use oats ).
You take a piece of aluminum foil, put another piece of wax paper
on top of it....then put on top an amount of the meat mix you are
going to use to make a roll...take bacon...wrap the whole meat
mix in the shape of a roll with bacon around it...put ketchup to
cover the whole wrap....then close the wax paper and the foil
paper around the roll....so you make the rolls the size you want...
you put it in the oven at 365' for 1 hour....after the hour you
let it cool and put it in the refrigerator....you eat it the next day,
you can eat it cold....or you can eat it hot ....I make a big roll
to eat it hot at dinner time and small ones for parties....or when
we go to the beach...enjoy!
