Cuatro Ases de la Toná (new CD traditional Asturian songs)

I just heard the last CD released by the "Four Aces" (Jorge Tuya, Ismael Tomás, José Manuel Collado and El Che de Cabaños), which includes the following "classics":

En toa la Quintana.
De la raíz del manzano.
Tengo de subir al puertu.
Cortexo en la Abadía.
A la Pipiona.
Carretera d´Avilés.
Cuando salí de l´aldea.
Ente les faldes del monte.
Les escombreres.
Debaxu del molin.

I must say that I have never, in my entire life, heard a better combination of songs and singers. It makes your hair stand on end and some versions, which I thought were unsurpassed until now (for instance "A la Pipiona" as sung by Juanín de Mieres, altough the very old folks say that the best version was by "El Maragatu") are just awsome.
How my grandpa would enjoy their version of "Carretera de Aviles" if he were alive!

Thanks to singers like these our traditional songs, so very difficult to sing, will be safe from extinction for yet another generation.

Acabo de escuchar el último disco que sacaron los Cuatro Ases de la Toná (Jorge Tuya, Ismael Tomás, José Manuel Collado y El Che de Cabaños), que include los siguientes "clásicos":

Tengo que decir que nunca jamás en mi vida escuché una mejor combinación de canciones y cantantes. Se te ponen los pelos de punta y algunas versión, que yo creí insuperables hasta ahora (por ejemplo la versión de "A la Pipiona" de Juanín de Mieres, aunque la gente mayor dice que la mejor versión era la de "El Maragatu") son impresionantes.
¡Cómo disfrutaría mi güelu con esta versión de "Carretera de Avilés" si aún viviera!

Gracias a cantantes como estos les "asturianaes", tan difíciles de cantar, se salvarán de la extinción durante otra generación más.

Aaayy, El Presi...!!! Que se puede decir de El Presi? En mi casa eran todos forofos de el. Mi canción favorita también es "Dime xilguerín parleru". Mi güelu que era muy cantarín y él y mis tíos ensayaban sus canciones en casa (mi padre no, porque cantaba fatal).

Es uno de los mejores recuerdos de mi infancia, cuando en fechas señaladas se juntaba toda la familia a comer y en la sobremesa (con café, "puru" y copa), empezaban los hombres a cantar asturianaes. Cuando eres una cría pequeña y los hombres de tu familia canten así, sientes que el mundo está en orden. No lo puedo explicar, pero los que tuvistéis una infancia similar seguro que lo entendéis.

Aaah, El Presi...! What can one say about El Presi! At my home they were all fans of his. My favourite song is also "Dime xilguerín parleru" (Tell me, little chattering goldfinch...). My grandpa was very fond of singing and he and my uncles used to practice his songs at home (not my dad, though, because he was an awful singer).

This is one of my best childhood memories, when on special occasions the whole family would get together for lunch and after the meal was over, (while sitting over their "coffee, cigar and glass of brandy or anisette") the men would start singing "asturianaes". When you are a little girl and the men in your family sing like that you feel like the world is in order. I can't explain it, but those of you who had a similar childhood will surely understand it.

Can you suggest specific CD's that those of us who would like to hear some of the songs you have written about could purchase, and perhaps suggest sources from which to buy them? (I have had good experiences in purchasing CD's and books from Asturshop in the past.)

Oyistis, nun escaezais tampoco a Xuanin de Mieres con esa voz tan grave que retumbel.laba y paicia que salia de les ramples de la mina.

¿Cómo íbamos a olvidar de Juanín de Mieres, Belarmu? Yo mencionelu de pasu, pero ye de los mis favoritos, sobre todo su versión de "Arrea carreteru" y "A la Pipiona". Cuando yo era pequeña el cantante más "purista" era El Tordín de Frieres, que tovía vive, y mi güelu lu adoraba.

How could we forget Juanín de Mieres, Belarmu? I mentioned him in passing, but he's one of my favourites, especially his version of "Arrea carreteru" and "A la Pipiona". When I was small the "purest" style singer was El Tordín de Frieres, who still lives, and whom my grandpa adored.
