An extranjero, an Asturiana and a wedding.

Post by ksg1979 »

Hallo,

My first post here, sorry it's one asking for answers :)

My girlfriend is from Oviedo, I'm from England and for some very boring reasons we're living here in grey, flooded, summerless Berkshire rather than there (jobs).

Well, I proposed on Monday and we decided to have a small service here and the official wedding and reception in Asturias (her tribe is much much bigger).

I came back from putting the empty cava bottles in the recycling box last night to a very upset fiancee.

It turns out that it might not be possible to get married in Oviedo because she has lived outside of Asturias/Spain for the past eight years.

I was wondering whether anyone had any experiences with this, or knew who I could talk to. My girlfriend is dreading contacting the incompetents at the embassy here.

Best regards and thanks in advance,

Just found out that all will be well.

A happier man signs off.

Congratulations! Are you going to take a honeymoon in Asturias, too?

¡Enhorabuena! ¿Vais a pasar la luna de miel en Asturias también?

Thankyou Art and Terechu, the honeymoon "proper" will be a couple of backpacks and a map of India the following Autumn (these weddings cost more than i thought! :) )

The bureaucracy on top of bureaucracy to get the legal stuff done and then stamped by everyone and their uncle with rules and regulations changing like the weather are rather "fun". I never really understood the dread with which my fiance approached dealing with authority until now.

Oh well, the gaiteros are now booked (the most important part), the sidra pourer has been instructed and everything looks good for a smashing day.

Your plans sound like fun!

Make sure your gaiteros know which door to meet you at.

I watched a wedding which began with gaiteros last fall. The gaiteros waited at a side door, while a huge wedding party waited for them at the main door. The gaiteros were enjoying talking to each other until finally one of them realized that they had gone to the wrong door. They ran to the other door and then played for no more than a minute as the wedding party raced up the stairs to the church. It was all kind of sad to watch, but life's like that.

-------------------

Tus planes me parece divertidos.

This is a wedding in the plaza at Piedras Blancas. I was across from the church.
