bablexpres?

Post by tierradenadie »

hola,

. . . @ . . . tienen prisa??
Asturians have an unique culture and that of course transfers over to language. When Asturianos speak Castellano they are known for several characteristics. Asturianos speak fast, very fast!!! They are known as the fastest Spanish-speakers in Spain. Asturianos NEVER use the past perfect unless they were educated in Madrid or another region. More commonly people say ya and the simple past. As in Ya fuiste?? Asturianos adore the diminutive in, besines, chauin, poquitin etc.
O and Que o?? Typical Asturian expresion, usually used when angry, when something is not understood or to ask for a definition.

Asturiano (asturianu, bable) is a language native to the Asturian region. Most people outside of Spain are not aware that Asturias has a language, and are only familiar with Catalan, Gallego etc. However Asturias does have a language and its probably only a matter of time before it is recognized as a language (it's now considered a dialect). It can be found on Tv, radio, road signs / town names and on the street of course.

¡Hola Peter!

Saludos,
Ana

I don't know about the speed of speech among castellanohablantes or asturianufalantes, but I do know that in American English southerners tend to speak more slowly than northerners (and as a northerner having just spent a few days in the south, that is my personal impression as well). Not a rule, of course, but a trend.

There is also a tendency to hear speech in a learned language as being fast simply because understanding takes more work, more processing of information, than in our first language (if only they would slow down and clearly separate words it would be so much easier to understand - a common perception).

In addition, subtle pronunciation differences are harder to hear in a learned language than in our native language. In English, "would you like some ice" and "would you like some mice" are almost but not quite identical in pronunciation. The difference is probably much easier for native speakers than for those who have learned English as a second language, although in the case of this example, context makes a big difference. Most people would prefer ice to mice in a glass of water.

I don't have good data, but I think there may be some truth to Asturians speaking quickly. I hear my relatives speaking pretty fast, faster than the Mexicans I've met here. I know that my mother and I are often accused of that in English. She speaks unusually fast and I must have learned it from her.

------------------

{ yo no!

http://ross.typepad.com/blog/2004/11/th ... of_la.html

http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=299820
