Vicente Fox, former President of Mexico

Post by Terechu »

A little gossip here... Vicente Fox Quesada, whose mother Mercedes was a native Asturian from Cangas de Onís, wants to have a church wedding at Sanctuary of Covadonga. He and his wife Marta visited Asturias this autumn and it seems they liked what they saw.

It's interesting that he doesn't marry in Mexico. Some governors and national politicians in the US have been criticized for vacationing outside their state or outside the country. If this is a second marriage, perhaps it would be a political liability to marry in Mexico.

Great ! I did not know that the ex-president of Mexico is half asturian, it's always nice to return to its origins in a very important days.

I'm not sure, but I suspect Bob is saying that he'd love to be in Asturias any and every day. Bob's an Asturianista!

Once you hit your head back to Asturias or Spain in general? I guess it's somewhat difficult, even being a descendant of Asturias or asturian raised in another country.

I've been fortunate to be able to visit la tierrina almost every year for the past 4-5 years. That's let me get to know my cousins and make good friends. But my situation is a little different from most Asturian-Americans. Some of my cousins visited this past year, though.

Éste me permitió conocer a mis primos y hacer amigos buenos.

Are you congratulating me on having "made it"?

Maybe I have arrived: I'm rich in family. Nephews and nieces? I have a dozen or so, all here in the US. In Spain I have over twenty lovely cousins, only counting those who I've met, but that is including first cousins, along with their spouses, kids and grandkids. I'm not sure I'm answering your question well, so let me know if that wasn't what you meant.

-------------------------------

¡Ja, ja, Rachel! ¿Me felicitaste por haber "llegado"?

Tal vez haya llegado: soy rico en familia. ¿Sobrinos y sobrinas?

Phew, I must be going blind. I can't find the part about the uncle. Maybe it's in another thread?

----------------------

Vaya.
