A mi el que más me gusta ye La Foceicha (La Focella), nel conceyu de Teberga (Teverga).

¡Hola!

Yo, si hay que elegir un pueblo de la lista, voto por Espinaréu. Mi abuelo materno era de Espinaréu, aunque luego vivió en Les Cueves (al otro lado de la montaña)

Mi madre vivió en Espinaréu durante algunos años de pequeña, con su abuela.

Supongo que mi segundo apellido estará relacionado de alguna manera también con el pueblo: Espina.

Hace poco, en una salida motera de fin de semana, pasamos por allí y el pueblo está precioso y la carretera arreglada, que falta le hacía.

I go for Espinaréu. My mother's father was born there, although he then lived in Les Cueves. My mum, as a child, also lived in Espinaréu for several years with her grandmother.

I guess my second surname might be related with the village somehow: Espina.

I've been to the village recently (we usually ride Asturias with our motorbike the weekend) and it was wonderful and the road refurbished (don't know if this's the correct term to use).

Ana, I don't think I've ever been to or even near Espinaréu. It looks very mountainous. Do you have a photo of the area?

"Refurbished" is understandable, but we'd probably say "repaved" or "repaired". We usually use "refurbish" when talking about making a house or an electronic device "almost as good as new".

Thanks for the correction about repaved and refurbished. Dind't have a dictionary to check.

Espinaréu is in Piloña county, near Infiesto. It's a wonderful village. Lots of houses have been refurbished (now I can use this word

), as well as several hórreos.

La Pesanca Recreation Area is just a few kilometers away. A nice place for picnicking and then having a nap

And the landscape is just beautiful...

Oh, there's another Espinaréu in Tineo that I was thinking of before.

Espinaréu (Piloña) is charming, and La Foceicha (Teberga) as well. So many beautiful villages. Thanks for the photos!

Ummmmh!

My thought went directly for Espinaréu (Piloña). I had no idea there was another Espinaréu in Tineo. But I'll look for it in a map and try to visit the village next time I'll go to Tineo area (which is quite often. Tato, my boyfriend, loves chosco sooooo much!

El Chosco de Tineo es un embutido curado y ahumado en ciego de cerdo. Los ingredientes que se emplean en su elaboración son 80% como mínimo de cabecera de lomo y 15 % mínimo de lengua, sal, pimentón y ajo. La tripa que se utiliza como cobertura del chosco es el ciego del cerdo, de ahí su forma redondeada e irregular.

Su color característico es el rojizo, más o menos intenso según la carne utilizada y la concentración del pimentón. Su sabor es agridulce con ahumado suave.

The Chosco de Tineo is a cured and smoked sausage stuffed in the pig's caecum or cecum, [a pouch connected to the junction of the small and large intestines]. The ingredients that they use to make it include a minimum of 80% from the back of the hog's head [Art: I'm not sure how to translate: "cabecera de lomo"] and a minimum of 15 % of tongue, plus salt, paprika, and garlic. The intestine that is used as a covering for the chosco sausgage is the hog cecum, from which it gets the rounded and irregular form.

It's typical color is reddish, more or less intense depending on the meat used and the concentration of paprika. It's flavor is bittersweet [or sweet and sour] with a light smoke flavor.

I was in Espinareu a few months back with my hiking group from La Puela (Pola de Allande) after an unsuccessful bid to climb the Picu Pienzu (the fog was too dense). They wanted to visit the village of Espinareu to see the collection of horros (Asturian granaries) there.

Here's my friend Susana Magadan in front of one of the granaries there. Espinareu is just a short ride outside of L'Infiestu in County Pilona. You need to take a side road to get there. The day we went we had to wait for a herd of cattle to clear the road. I think there's also a teixu (yew tree; taxus baccata), the sacred tree of the ancient Asturians, next to the village church.

Contestando a tu pregunta, tierradenaide, el horreo (granero) era usado a veces como habitación.
En mi casa, como era muy pequeña, mi bisabuelo dormía en el horreo y los hijos y después también los nietos dormían en la casa.
En invierno que hacía más frío mi bisabuelo también dormía en la casa.
Era una forma de estar un poco más cómodos en el poco espacio de que disponían.

To answer your question, Tierradenaide, the horro (granary) was sometimes used as a room. At our house, my great-grandfather used to sleep in the horro while his sons and grandchildren slept in the home. In winter, when it got colder, our grandfather slept inside the house. It was a way to be as comfortable as possible despite the small size of our digs.
