U.S.A. vs. España Wednesday on ESPN

The USA beat Egypt to advance in the Confederation's Cup and will face world number one Spain on Weds! Who will you root for?

USA all the way, here! (although I support Spain all other times)

I hope the USA can keep it close. Spain is a soccer monster right now.

Holy mother of cannoli! We beat Spain, the #1 team in the world, 2-0. This is crazy!

Yeah, they're down over the loss to the US team. Didn't watch the game, but have scanned headlines here and there in Asturias, and there's a measure of surprise, as if it were wrong on several levels to lose to the Americans. It's like when the Russians lose to the US or Canada at hockey--it almost becomes a sovereignty issue. Holy cannoli? No, wholly incongruent.

I'm not a sports fan, although I watch maybe five events a year on TV. I have no team loyalties, but regard watching a sporting event as akin to watching an impromptu dance performance.

I can appreciate the skill involved in what I see, but it doesn't generate an emotional response from me. I would have been equally happy to see either Spain or the EEUU win.
