I just recently found this website, so I'll introduce myself. My original Spanish name is Corsino, although it has been legally changed to my American name Cole. But in Spain I'm still Corsino.
I'm a native Asturian. Sometime in 1937 as the Spanish Civil War fighting was nearing Asturias, each family was given the opportunity to have their youngest child evacuated. That was me.
Along with a multitude of people, I was put on a boat at Gijon and transported to Bordeaux, France. I spent the next five years in various "colonias", in Paris, Le Havre, Lyon, and near Marseille.
Periodically, as their families were found, other children were sent back to Spain. My memory must have been very bad and I could not remember my birthplace, except that it was in Asturias. Furthermore, my paper records also gave the wrong information. At any rate, instead of being sent back to Asturias, I was brought to the U.S in 1942, along with about 25 other Spanish children.
Time marched on and I eventually retired. Determined to find my Spanish family, I made a solo trip to Asturias in 1996. With the aid of what my wife calls a "miracle", I found relatives. Well, actually they found me.
It turned out that I was born in the concejo of Aller, in a hamlet called Castandiello. You probably can't find it on a map, but it's across the river from Pin`eres. On the highway from Moreda to Caban`aquinta.
That's basically it. My American family pestered me into writing my story, which I have, in a book titled 'Corsino'. But it's basically an expansion of what I just wrote above.
