Surname Caldevilla
My name is Lisette. My grandfather Avelino Caldevilla born 1903 left Spain about 1922. I know he had many siblings and I know some still live in the area. I believe some where in Asturias with a known cousin in Madrid.
Any information, even if it is only about the surname, would be greatly appreciated. I am Manuel Francisco Caldevilla's youngest daughter.
Avelino left spain and arrived in Cuba where he eventually met Estrella Maria Perez, from the canary slands. They married about 1931. ANd they had three children, my father Manuel Francisco, my uncle Ramon and Aunt Maria Estrella , the youngest.
I understand Avelino had siblings who lived in Argentina and Venezuela. He Died at the age of 66 in Cuba . All his children eventually moved to the states and his wife died in 1992. My father, Manuel has also passed on, in 1999.

Surname Caldevilla
This post is in response to Lissette (Caldevilla) Aug. 14, 2006. Hello Lissette. My name is Daysi Caldevilla Duing. My father, Roberto Caldevilla, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1918. His father was Pedro Caldevilla also born in Cuba. And his father before him was Pelayo (maybe Alvaro) Caldevilla, also born in Cuba. This is all I know of my Caldevilla family tree. I don't know if this helps you any in your search. I too am looking for my Asturian roots and any info you can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

In Asturias there are several villages called "Caldevilla", giving origin to that surname:
Caldevilla (county Ibias)
Caldevilla (county Piloña)
Caldevilla de Acio (county Cangas del Narcea)
Caldevilla de Arbás (county Cangas del Narcea)
Caldevilla de Rengos (county Cangas del Narcea)
Ibias and Cangas del Narcea are neighbouring counties in the south-western region of Asturias. Piloña, however, is in Eastern Asturias. You can check them out on Google Earth and see if any of the names ring a bell.

Thank you Terechu
Dear Terechu,
Thank you for the tip. As it so happens, the night I became a member of this forum I did a Google Earth search and discovered the aforementioned towns named Caldevilla. I also discovered that there is a place in Cangas de Narcea called "las lagunas de Caldevilla" of which Google Earth has provided scenic pictures (although I failed to see any lakes). Not to mention, in Caldevilla (Pilona) there is this large rustic house for rent called "el Palacio". Spectacular mountain views! If I ever go to Spain again I most definitely would like to spend some time there. I think I understand now why I have always had an affinity for the Appalachian and East Coast mountains versus the Rocky Mountains, the landscape is very similar.
Another question that perhaps you can help me with, we Caldevillas are very fair skinned with blue eyes, this is not typical of most Cubans I know, usually people think we are of Irish or German decent. Is this typical of Asturianos? If so, why?

If you read about the history of Asturias, you will find that there were people there well before the Romans. Celts, Celtiberians, Lugones, Suevi, Norman invaders - lots of different peoples passed tnrough or invaded and later retreated. Even the Roman contribution was not unformly dark eyed and dark haired - the various legios were drawn from all over. Some stayed or left there genes behind. All of the kids in my father's family had brown-black hair as young adults, and pure white hair from about age 50 on. But they were all various shades of blond(e - there was one sister) as small children.
There are some interesting posts on Asturian genes elsewhere in the forums. If you are interested in the genetics of hair color, a good starting point is OMIM. Just go to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=OMIM and enter "hair color" in the search engine. Be warned, however, that it gets very complicated.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm a geneticist and evolutionary biologist.

Como hago para pider informacion de el registro civil online
Terechu,
Disculpame pero yo no me di cuenta que Ud. eres de Asturias, yo tenia idea que Ud. estaba aqui en los EEUU como yo. Yo lei en otro post suya lo siquiente:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Berodia (and all),
The registries of Asturias are becoming computerized and the one in Cangas de Onís among them. You can request birth certificates on-line, although the starting date was around 1872 or thereabouts. Births prior to that date are registered in the parish archives only and you need to contact the parish.

Para lograr encontrar informacion sobre mi apellido "Caldevilla" como hago para pedir informacion de los paroquios? Ay, I'm sorry but my spanish stinks so I'm switching to English. As you may note from the topic I'm looking for info about my last name. I know that my father, grandfather and great-grandfather were born in Cuba but that we are of Asturian decent. I spoke with my older brother and he said that my great-great grandfather was a military man in the Spanish Army prior to the Spanish-American War and Cuba's Independence in 1902. If my brother is right, is there a way for me to check Spain's military records? Also, since my spanish is rather poor, I am apprehensive about going to the website mentioned above. What do I ask them?

There are several good books on the Celtic roots of Asturias. One of the best ones I'm familiar with is "Asturies: Memoria Celta", published by the Belenos Fundación. And you're in luck; you can read it on this website:
http://www.asturies.com/belenos/memoriacelta/
Many Asturians think of themselves as being Celtic. Asturias, as one of the "Celtic Nations", participates in the Inter-Celtic festivals.

more on surname caldevilla
I am posting this on behalf of Jose R. Caldevilla, Tampa, FL
"Hi Lissette and Daysi--My name is José R. Caldevilla. I was born in Tampa, Fl May 14,1940. Daysi you have E-mailed my sons, Rick and David. Also, Daysi I have a brother, Vicente, living in Pembrook Pines.
My father José Caldevilla Lera was from Cantabria from a village boundering Los Picos de Europa by the name of Espinama, not too far from Cosgaya where Pelayo helped fight off the Moors, Fuente Dé, and Potes. The principal city of Cantabria is Santander. He migrated alone to Cuba about 1929 and later came to Tampa about 1934. I have visited one of the villages named Caldevilla, in the surrounding areas of Asturias, Cantabria, and Leon.
My mother María Sánchez Caldevilla is from Asturias from the village of Suarias. It's major township is Panes, and borders Asturias and Cantabria. Its not too far from Covadonga and Cangas de Onis. My mother and her parents migrated to Tampa about 1932.
I travel to both areas often since I still have uncles and cousins living there. I'm planning on going again this September. "

Caldevilla
Hello people,
A few days ago I was looking for a facebook group for people with the name Caldevilla but I found none. So I decided to make one of my own: I added some information about our lastname and my goal is to join as many Caldevilla's as possible and see where they are nowdays. I also decided to add a link to this site because I know the lastname Caldevilla has asturian roots (I'm asturian myself) and there are a lot of Caldevilla's in America. Now I'm curious to see how many people I can join
Kind regards

Hola gente,
