Maternal grandfather from Cangas de Narcea
He married my maternal grandmother from Pinar el Rio ,Cuba. Even though that is area for tobacco, he instead had the biggest food/warehouse store in town next to big hotel. Early they lived in Cangas de Narcea giving birth to four girls. During Spanish Civil War, they took a boat back to Cuba from Coruna in Galicia. He later abandoned the family and went back to Spain. He was living in Spain in 1965 in the last check up

Any connection with Cangas de Narcea
Hello
I found out it was the largest clothing store in Pinar del Rio. His name was Luis Rabanal Alonso and might have been originally from Castilla. He married Maria Robaina Mora from Cuba. The fourth daughter was born back in Cuba after boat trip. My mother was one of the three born in Cangas de Narcea, Asturias

OK, maybe you should post this in the Genealogy Section of this forum, so all members will see it.
Secondly, if Luis Rabanal died in Spain, his death should be recorded in the Civil Registry where he was born.
You might want to contact the Registro Civil in Cangas del NArcea and request a death certificate and see if you get lucky.

Hello from Florida
My mother is Carmen Alicia Perea Rabanal, one of the four daughters also born in Cangas de Narcea. My mother lost touch with her older sibling and I think that could be your mother. If so, please reply.

Hello cousin
It looks like we have a connection made. I am an Optometrist in NYC. I noticed your profile as owner of software company. My mother said you were born in 1962 two years before me and you have a sister. I have a brother seven years my junior who is a attorney. I have also looked into spanish citizenship.. It is easier to have ours mothers do it first. Any other info on the other sisters of our mothers.. My email is

I wouldn't recommend having your mother get citizenship first. I wasted a year thinking the same thing. The law is confusing and it isn't written clearly, but as a grandchild of Spaniards you can probably receive citizenship relatively easily now. But you only have a brief window of opportunity: only about 14 months.

There are other messages that give more info, too.

Our mothers were born in Spain
I heard that if family had to leave Spain due to civil war persecution and/or economic issues the citizen ship is considered
Yep, that's exactly what confused me, too! It's much more open than that. Family persecution isn't necessary. I don't understand why the written regulations don't match the practice, but you're probably eligible -- if you can find the documentation quick enough. Read that thread. It'll explain much of it.

Hello Cousin
Your Mom is correct I was born in 1962 and I'm the youngest of 4 children. I have two older brothers and a sister. My mom is still in touch with one of her sisters that lives in Cuba. The other sister I don't know anything about, except that she's living somewhere in Miami.
In speaking to by older brother he rememebers your mom baby sitting him and my other siblings while my mom was giving birth to me. Filing for Spanish Citizenship should be easy for you since your mom was born in Spain. I just finish filing all my paper work with the Spanish Consulate in Miami and hopefully I will get my citizenship in the next 3 to 4 months. Afterwards, I will apply to get my passport and start the filing for my 2 daughters ages 16 and 13. If you have kids under 18 is much easier. Anyhow, what is the best way to get in touch?

Hey look who just joined
Hey Carlos,
This is Eric A. Garcia, Esq. I thought I would add to the fun. Here is a puzzle. To figure out David's email you would add his screen name to yahoo. For my email you add my screen name to yahoo.
P.S. My mom thinks it is Digna that is still in Cuba.
