Post by zapico »

My grandfather (born in WV 1914), traveled to Spain in 1967. I have a video of a house that -- based on what my dad says -- is where my great grandfather grew up. I've checked google maps, the house is still there. The house is on the cliffs at Playa de Arnao, near the mine. If I were to put a Youtube link to the video could anyone identify it or verify that it is actually a house or provide any other information?

I've added an image from google of the house, but it is not too clear. It's in the middle and you can kind of make out a yellow line around it.

Here is the Youtube link:

The house is the one with the red shutters. I'm pretty sure that the video shows the zinc mine, too. The bullfighting is just extra material.

My grampa is the guy on the right. The older couple apparently lived there and they said they remembered the Zapico's.

Hello, Zapico. I've translated your messages and written to a friend to ask for her help.

Now for some friendly advice.....

When I translate a message, I often use this online service as a first step: http://translate.google.com/translate_t ... v=_t&hl=en
It's helpful, but not good enough for the final translation. But Google can't decipher poorly constructed texts.

For example, in this case, I had to correct a number of spelling, capitalization, and grammar errors because Google couldn't understand your message. Please remember that many of our members don't read English and will use a web translation service to help them read your messages. I don't usually translate your messages for you. So, if you want other members to help you, you will have to be very careful in constructing your messages.

Hi

I know the actual owner of that house, but nothing to do with the Zapico family, actually I think he brought it from somebody else.

Thanks so much for your reply, Chanquete. What time period in this house's history do you know well? Zapico was saying that his grandfather was born in 1914, nearly 100 years ago.

The Zapico family would have lived there before 1906.

I added your video to this page, as you will see there were many comments, I hope someone said something that will be helpful to know their history, now the house there and live there, plus the mine is being restored and it is possible that this year inaugurated a museum in it.
If you have more videos or photos we would love to join the group Friends Arnao Beach where we try to recover the history of this place.

Thank you very much for your video.
