The Times West Virginan Newspaper Article on AsturianUS.org

The Times West Virginan Newspaper has published an article on the Asturian-American Migration Forum Web site: www.AsturianUS.org.

Unfortunately, the article contains a number of significant errors. Some of the errors clearly resulted from the Asturian-American story not being well-known.

Evidently the reporter, Julie Sheldon, who we found to be warm and friendly, had never heard of "Asturias." Even though Suronda, Ron, (Suronda's father), and I all talked about Asturias as a Spanish province, in Julie's article it became "the small town of Asturia in Italy." Perhaps the author was more familiar with Clarksburg's large Italian population.

This experience clearly demonstrates that our story has gone untold--even in our primary communities! Our hope in creating this site is that through www.AsturianUS.org we can re-tell the stories of Asturian-Americans before they are lost forever.
