I found reference to "La Residencia de ninos de Oviedo" in 1896. Does anyone know where I could find information on where the records might be? My grandfather stayed there for two years after his mother died, until he was adopted. I'd also like to find a photo of the building.
Thanks!

If I'm not wrong, the Children's Residence of Oviedo should be the Real Hospicio. All the documentation relative to this institution can be consultated at the Archivo Histórico de Asturias, here:
http://www.archivosdeasturias.info/
A short history of the Hospicio. It was the Regente, or High Comissioner of His Majesty Ferdinand 6th., Gil de Jaz, who has a street in Oviedo, the person that proposed the creation of this institution for protect orphans and similar childrens, poors, etc., and began its activity in the year 1752. This continuated until 1965, when ended definitively. Five years later, in 1972, the same building was dedicated to a different thing: it's the today's Hotel de la Reconquista, where relevant personalities as politicians or the winners of the Prince of Asturias awards are received.
Here you can see a picture of the old Hospicio, today Hotel Reconquista:
