Arango Rodriguez Family / Los cabos , Pravia

Since I finally visited the land of my grandfather and grandmother this past summer, I have been obsessed with finding out more about the lives and times and the places where my many ancestors lived. I've found more information on my grandfather's side, but I also visited the towns of Cangas de Narcea, Tineo, and Luarca (the towns of my grandmother's family) while in Asturias and vowed to return as soon as possible to continue the search.

My Name is Ellis Gil Rodriguez. I am a retired general contractor born in Tampa, Florida, and I now live in the mountains of North Carolina, U.S.A.

My grandfather was Eliseo Rodríguez Pulido y Arango. He was born in Los Cabos,Pravia, Asturias in 1889 and emigrated to the U.S.A in 1906 through Cuba to Tampa, Florida. He settled in the Latin community of Ybor City, where he married Juana Alvarez, my grandmother. They both worked in the cigar industry.

I recently visited Asturias for the first time and met many cousins in the village of Los Cabos, Pravia.

I visited La Iglesia de Santianes and the cemetery in Santianes, Pravia, where family members back before the early 1800s are buried.

I'm looking for family ties to the name Arango, which occurs in both my grandfather's parents' lineages.

This lineage begins with my grandfather, Eliseo Rodriquéz Pulido y Arango.

Each of these family members lived, married, had families, and died in Los Cabos, Santianes, Pravia, Asturias.

The name Arango has a special significance to me because while visiting the church in the town square in Pravia, I found a plaque over a classroom door, to the right side of the front entry to the church, which identified this classroom as the first public school in this town, which was founded and funded by the Brothers Arango in the mid 1600's!
