I am very excited about the family that was recently located. Just want to share it with you.
Last September my son, Scott, was traveling to the Aviles area where he located many family members. My grandmother was Mercedes Gonzalez from the village of Navaces. Their parish church for the family is San Roman Church in Naveces. Scott does not speak Spanish and the relatives he met did not speak English. The Hotel where they met gave them an interrupter for the afternoon. Two of the many relatives that live there now are Antonio Gonzalez Diaz and Marina Iglesias Gonzalez.
Our Asturian family members have been very warm and welcoming. Scott is visiting the area now. He completed walking the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago this past week.
My son recently found our family in Aviles!!!

Welcome, Janie/Isabella!
We'll all be interested in learning what you've found out about your family ties to Asturias.
Also, I'd be very interested in hearing about Scott's experience on the Camino de Santiago.

Well, it won't be this summer, Adrián! I'm swamped here with starting up in a new career et al., but I *was* talking about El Caminio with my wife tonight.
Back in 2007 or so, Is, Busto, and I walked a very short section in western Asturias. A friend of the forum, James Fernandez, has just completed a piece of the Camino de Santiago along with members of his family. One day, I hope to say I've walked it across Asturias.
