Good morning,
I am currently working on my family tree which has lead me to this wonderful forum. I know that my great-grandfather was born in Asturius, Spain in 1876 and immigrated to the US via Cuba in 1903. My great-grandmother was from Santiago de Las Vegas, Cuba and immigrated to the states in 1900.
I am looking for any information about the Suco name and any family that may still be in the region. I don't know what part of Asturius he came from, only that he was from there because it was listed on his Naturilization papers I found on Ancestry.com.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Michele Ayers Welch

Suco surname
There is a Casa Suco in Nava or Bimenes, SSE of Gijón. Here is the conjtact information.
Casa Suco
reservas@casasuco.com
Santa Gadía s/n
Bimenes, ASTURIAS, 33528
The s/n just means that there is no street number. I would suggest writing in Spanish to inquire about a possible family connection.

Thank you so much for this information. I am ashamed to say that although I learned Spanish growing up, I didn't retain hardly anything, so writing in Spanish is going to be tricky. I'm sure there's an "app" for it, so I'll look and see.
Keep the information coming, I'm like a sponge and want to absorb as much as I possibly can.
thank you,
Michele Welch

Spanish or English
It won't hurt to try contacting them in English if you don't write Spanish well. We found that quite a few people in Asturias speak English, but sometimes don't volunteer that information. When I was there with my father, who has the local accent and is totally fluent, we noticed the hotel desk clerk speaking English to a guest, and asked him why he hadn't mentioned that he was fluent in English. His replay was "You spoke to me in Spanish and you didn't ask."
