Joan Cecelia Menendez McCulley McCoy
Joan Cecelia Menendez McCulley McCoy passed away on May 21, 2014 in Hampton, Virginia where she has resided since 1977. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 15, 1933 to John and Edna Voelp Menendez. Her parents relocated to Chickasaw, AL during WWII and in 1946 moved to New Orleans. She graduated in 1951 from John McDonogh High School. She attended Newcomb College and Delgado Community College. In New Orleans she raised champion Siamese cats. Throughout the 1980’s, she operated the Strawberry Patch Gift Shop in Newport News, VA. She was a talented crafter and gifted ceramist. She was past-president of the Braxton Perkins Chapter of the American Legion Post 25 Auxiliary in Hampton, VA and Grand Chapeau of Eight and Forty. She was predeceased by her son, John Alton McCulley, and second husband, Douglas A. McCoy, Sr. Survivors include a daughter, Cathleen McCulley Langhoff (Irwin) of New Orleans, two sons, Joseph M. McCulley of Summit, MS and Douglas A. McCoy, Jr. of Hampton, VA. Also grandchildren Shane A. McCulley (Tiffany) of New Orleans, Brooklyn N. Jordon of Many, LA, and Allyson M. Langhoff of New Orleans, also a great grandson, Charter Reid Johnson of Many
