Looking to trace back Alvarez de la Campa family
Hello everyone!
My name is Carlos Armas Alvarez de la Campa.
I was born in occidental Cuba, 45 kms west of Havana.
I now live in Canada.
My grandfather name was Atilano Alvarez de la Campa.
I do not know if he was born in Cuba or Asturias.
His family (him?) came from Asturias and settled in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
As far as I know, the San Juan y Martinez town.
These are the facts or notes I know, and I hope I can at least find a bit more info on my family origins.
I do remember my grandpa membership card of the "Asociacion Asturiana de Cuba", which my mom used to keep with the family photos. memories, and keepsakes.
My grandpa was somehow related (cousin? second cousin?) to Alonso Alvarez de la Campa, one of of the medical students executed on November 27, 1871 for "crimes against the Crown", a known chapter of colonial Cuban history.
There's also an Antonio Alvarez de la Campa who was a relative as well.
That's all I know. It's been a challenge for me to trace back my roots.
I do find a lot of Alvarez de la Campa references on the Internet, connected to Asturias. Not enough information indeed.
Hoping that someone in this forum can provide some advise.
And if I find an Alvarez de la Campa through the forum, even better!
Regards,
Carlos

I have had an increasing interest to discover where my family comes from. It would be interesting to chat or talk to you!
Greetings,
Mairim

Hi Mairim!
Hope you still check this site. You posted a reply in 2011, 2 years after my post.
I had given up on checking for answers!
Juana Maria Alvarez de la Campa was definitely my granpa Atilano's sister.
Just talked to my mom, she remembers the following:
Juana Maria was married to Francisco Avila.
They had two children: Filiberto and Raida (or Rayda).
So maybe your first or second last name is Avila?
In any case, so we are do not lose contact, my email address is ####
I live in Vancouver, Canada (west coast)

Información
Hola Carlos:
http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas/serv ... do=1859724

(ella tiene ahora 82 an~os)
Saludos,
Carlos

More information
Hi, Carlos:
In a post in this Forum, "Expertdoctor" (Jose Antonio Rodriguez Menendez) wrote a lot about the Alvarez de la Campa family and its possible relationship with Pedro Menendez de Avilés, the governor of Florida.
Check it. Perhaps you find key information there.
Also, check a news that last december appeared about a Ricardo Zamora Álvarez de la Campa, from San Juan y Martínez. Perhaps this person is a relative.

My name is Gipsy J. Alvarez de la Campa. I’m 31 and I live in Madison, WI. My dad is Osvaldo Alvarez de la Campa and he lives in Miami... he was named after his father.
We are originally from Holguin, Cuba.
I don’t know much about the family but I do know that we are directly related to the medical student who was executed in the 1800s, Alonso Alvarez de la Campa.
It may be helpful to look up names like Cecilia Alvarez de la Campa, Osvaldo Alvarez de la Campa, Alonso Alvarez de la Campa. Also, Roberto Alvarez de la Campa.
I’ve never been able to trace my family tree but I do know that we are only one family.
