In 2014, 100 individuals from Aviles had their DNA tested to determine from where their ancestors migrated to Asturias. Unfortunately, the project distribution maps show that the ancestors of those tested migrated into Asturias. While I do not dispute their findings, it is hard to believe that the Asturians did not migrated to other areas and the only way to determine that is to test the other individuals from those migrating countries. One interesting finding was that one individual had Native American ancestry. I believe that the study was sponsored by the Niemeyer Center in Aviles and the DNA tests kits were provided by National Geographical.

Jasm,

Thank you for posting the English version of the publication. It was very interesting reading. I appreciate knowing all I can find about Asturias and our DNA. One part of the article indicates that there seemed to be a migration and an influx of outsiders other than from the other Celtic countries, thus giving us more of a central European DNA mixture. I am a believer that DNA was spread to the other Celtic countries from Asturias than the other way around.
