Clothing/fabric designs and styles?
Am interested in whether anyone has some information to share about traditional clothing styles/designs, fabrics, home furnishings, weaving, quilts, etc., and history of same from the region.

Asturian Dress
Evelyn,
I found this website for the Grupo Folklorico Pleamar (Folk Dance Group Pleamar) from Aviles, and it has brief descriptions of the typical dress for men and for women during the 18th Century. The group presents the regional differences within Asturias in terms of dance and costume (eastern, center, and western Asturias). They've put together several festivals in Asturias, and have toured throughout Spain as well as western Europe.
While there aren't detailed written descriptions of the costumes, there are several colorful photos which show these off. Check them out at Grupo Folklorico Pleamar .

Trajes asturianos
http://www.asturies.com/cgi-bin/asturie ... t&indice=5
No todos los trajes que se usan en Asturies son completamente fiables. El folklore oficial durante la época de Franco falsificó muchos bailes y también la indumentaria. Estos son muy de fiar:
http://www.ayto-aviles.es/cultura_trajes_asturianas.htm
http://personales.ya.com/xareu/presentacion.htm
http://www.gijonasturias.com/agrodom301.htm
Te recomiendo seguir el árbol de los mensajes, porque explica todo bastante bien. Si no entiendes algo, gustosamente te lo puedo traducir del asturiano (sorry, but I never studied English, I know only a little, I can understand your posts, but I don't speak it really).
Saludinos.

Not all costumes used in Asturias are completely reliable. The official folklore during the Franco regime falsified many dances and also the costumes. The following are very reliable:

I recommend that you follow the message list, because it explains everything quite well. If there is something you don't understand I will be glad to translate it from Asturiano (sorry, but I never studied English, I know only a little, I can understand your posts, but I don't speak it really).

Hello Evelyn
You can also watch http://www.netcom.es/azabache and see something about this topic.
The book "La indumentaria Popular en la Ribera del Sella" (Herminia Menéndez y Eduardo Quintana) is an study about clothes in registrar documents during XVII and XIX centuries, in Cangas de Onís. Maybe it is interesting for you.
Greetings from Gijón

Is the costume my great grandfather is wearing here traditional?
What period would his outfit be from? The photo was probably taken around 1910.
Are there instructions available on how to make these costumes?

¿Es tradicional, este traje de mi bizabuelo?
¿De qué época sería su conjunto? Probablemente la foto fuera sacado en los años 1910.
¿Existe instruciones sobre como construir estos trajes?

¡Gracias, Mini! Sí, lo he recibido. Mi madre y yo estamos estudiandolo. Parece ser mucho trabajo, pero me encantaría llevar la indumentaria asturiana. A ver....

Thanks, Mini! Yes, I've received it. My mother and I are studying it. It looks like a lot of work, but I'd be delighted to be able to wear an Asturian outfit. We'll see....
