writer H.P.Lovecraft and Asturias

I have recently read the tale "The mound" by H.P.Lovecraft. In this tale there is a character who is an asturian "hidalgo" from Luarca. Lovecraft seems to know where Asturias and that here the country people speak a "patois" or dialect called bable (although I have read a translation to Spanish, I supose the original English stands the name). Do any of our american friends know whether Lovecraft have ever met any asturian people or did he learnt that by reading books?
