Gee, it took me a while to decide, but i think i'll go for the non-forum section or the Recipes & Foods. If i can do both, then both be it. I can try and then decide if i can do it, right?

Well, while I have more time to review the contents of other sections (I am a newcomer), I guess that you'll need some extra help with the Genealogy one, so count on me for that one.

Just a suggestion to allow Castillian- or English-only members to participate: it is very useful for me, when writing in English, to have my text drafts reviewed by a native English speaker. It greatly improves the quality of the text and is, in any case, the best way to check if what I wrote truly resembles real English. So you don't really need to speak both languages to help. I feel some eight million times more comfortable when translating from English to Spanish, but could do the reverse without much trouble with the help of an English-only native speaker. That would increase the flexibility of the system if we had much more messages, or much less translators, in one of the languages.

To resume with: my suggestion is that in the couples of English native - Spanish native speakers, it is not absolutly essential that both of them spoke both languages. Specially while we get more translators working.

Bueno, mientras tengo algo más de tiempo para revisar y conocer los contenidos de otras secciones, me parece que les vendría bien un poco más de ayuda con la de Genealogía, así que pueden contar conmigo para ella.

Una sugerencia para que los miembros que sólo hablen castellano o inglés puedan participar también: a mí me resulta muy útil habitualmente, cuando escribo en inglés, que un nativo revise mis textos. Mejora mucho su calidad y, de cualquier manera, es la mejor prueba para comprobar si lo que escribo realmente se parece en algo al inglés "de verdad." Así que en realidad no es necesario hablar los dos idiomas para ayudar en la empresa. Yo prefiero unos ocho millones de veces más el traducir de inglés a castellano, pero podría también hacer la traducción inversa sin demasiados quebrantos con la ayuda de un hablante inglés nativo. Ello incrementaría la flexibilidad y eficiencia del sistema si tuviésemos muchos menos traductores, o muchos más mensajes, en uno de los idiomas.

En resumen, que mi sugerencia es que en las parejas inglés-español de hablantes nativos, no es completamente necesario que los dos miembros hablen los dos idiomas. Sobre todo mientras conseguimos que empiecen a funcionar más equipos.

Please sign me up for the Arts (handicrafts and literature) and Language (the entire section). If I see that I have enough time left, I'd be glad to sign up for additional sections.

Por favor apúntenme a "Artes" (artesanía y literatura) y a Lengua (toda la sección). Si veo que tengo tiempo suficiente, me apuntaré gustosamente a otras secciones.

This is a very interesting idea! I like it. And for those of us who are trying to learn the other language, it offers many advantages. Recently, when Carlos helped me by translating the letter to volunteers, I found it very helpful to discuss with him word-choice options.

We could add another category to the sign-up list for any native speaker who would like to help by reviewing a draft text or otherwise consulting with other members on language issues.

Should volunteers be able to limit their work to areas of the forum, so they don't get called on too much?

What should we call this Native Language Assistants / Lectores Nativos ? or what?

Limitarse a áreas, al menos hasta que veamos cuántos mensajes podemos procesar cada uno, también me parece buena idea.

Please sing me up for the "recipes and food" (dessert or meat or.... all. I don´t mind)
I prefer translate from English to Spanish, I write very bad in English but, on the contrary, I think I´ll be a good "native language assistant".

Prefiero traducir del inglés al español porque escribo fatal en inglés pero, por el contrario, creo que seré una buena lectora nativa

I do better translating from English to Spanish. Sin embargo, puedo intentar hacer ambas traducciones. Mi interesa sobre todo las historias familiares de los imigrantes y la sección sobre trabajo.

yo podria ayudar en cancioneru y musica. Aunque no se si podre traducir del español al ingles. me resulta mas facil leer algo en ingles y luego traducirlo al español.

Hola Chris,

I know exactly what you mean. I can translate from Spanish to English reaonably well and quickly, but to translate from English into Spanish is a different story. At the very least it takes me much longer. My time is limited, so I use it where I can do the most.

Your help in translating the various messages would be very much appreciated by Suronda, Art, Terechu, me and our members. If you ever want to translate Spanish into English, you could send your translation to me for comments before posting it.

By the way, I would be interested in your comments on my translation from asturianu into English in my recent posts.
