¡Voy a ser padre!

Yes, it's true! The next chapter in the Vallina story is currently residing inside my lovely wife, Jennifer. She's due in July, and we couldn't be more excited! ¡Vaya cambios!

Hey, Xose, enhorabuena! Congratulations! Herzlichen Glückwunsch! etc.
That is great news, your life will become more meaningful and you will see a great change in your scale of values - things that were all-important will become meaningless, and everything will be only relative from now on.
I will become a grandmother in May (it's going to be a boy) and as we say here, we'll have to put towels all over the floor because both Iván and I are grinning so hard we drool.

Girl names very much in vogue these days: Mar (Sea), Inés (Agnes), Deva, Celia and Alicia
Classics: Maria, Marta and Laura

Boy names: Gabriel, Nicolas, Sergio, Alvaro, Andrés
Classics: Juan, Carlos and Pablo.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks all! We're not sure what to name her if she's a little girl, but the boy MUST be Joseph to keep up with tradition. (I'm like the fifth or sixth Joe or José in a row....)

That said, I'm betting on a niña.....

:)

Hi Xose and Jennifer,

WHAT WONDERFUL NEWS! :P

Another little Vallina, Tomasa and Cuesta (Jose) would be so proud..

Great having another addition to our family.

There is absolutely nothing better than a baby...it makes everything absolutely wonderful.

Fondly,

Barbara

Terechu,

Congratulations to you and your famiily on the coming birth of your Grandson.

I can tell you that children are wonderful...but a Grandchild...nothing better.

Enjoy every minute with him when he comes, they grow up so fast. My Grandaughter is 9 and I can't believe it...where did the time go? Her name is Gianna...

Thanks Barbara, we are overjoyed, as you can imagine. You would crack up if you saw the future grandfather making plans on how to start a model train collection, getting the boy ski equipment (he's already asked at San Isidro ski station if there are season tickets for babies!!!) and, in general, doing all those things he likes to do himself, but accompanied by his grandson!
The only thing that dampens our spirits is that our daughter lives on the Mediterranean coast, about 900 km from here, and we'll only get to see them all every 3 months or so. I hope Gianna lives close to you and you get to enjoy her, like Bob enjoys his two grandaughters.

You're most welcome Terechu,

My Daughter and Grandaughter live 3 miles from us, we are very lucky

We have had a major part in her life since she was born. My daughter works and travels a great deal for business and we take care of Gianna.

Up until 2 years ago we took care of her only during the day, but 2 years ago my son in law passed away very suddenly, so now when she travels Gianna is with us.

Even though they live far, you and your husband will be a major part of his life. Grandparents always are... :P

Becoming a parent is wonderful. You have--perhaps or the first time--the feeling that what you do can make a real difference in the world.

The very best part of being a grandparent is that you get to be a kid again, but this time you get to do it right. All the issues that you faced as a parent dissolve into nothingness, and you take on a kid-centered view of the universe. What the grandkids get is unconditional love, pure and simple.

I send best wishes from Evelyn and me, as well as our love, to all who are in the process of becoming parents and grandparents. It just doesn't get any better than this. As a bonus, you get to pass on parts of your heritage and see it take root.

Abrazos,

Bob
