Here's the link to LNE's article on yesterday's massive singing event at Gijón's main square "Plaza Mayor". The City of Gijón has been hosting a summer cider festival for several years now and for the last 3 years this festival includes a massive sing-along at 9 p.m. Hundreds of songbooks are given out and people crowd together to sing popular songs, lead by the choir "Orfeón Gijonés". The square was packed! We sang a selection of Asturian songs, from the miners' anthem "En el Pozu Maria Luisa" to rural "El Molineru" and even a couple of Latin American Boleros.
The best about this year's event, however, was the performance by El Che de Cabaños - in my opinion the best singer of Asturian toná that has come our way in the last 50 years. I'm still in rapture over this modest little man's voice.
