My name is Julio Pumariega and live in Miami Florida. I came to the US in 1962 from Cuba. For sometime my daughter has been asking me the heritage of her last name and to be honest I didn't know because I had lost contact with my relatives on my father's side. She said someone told her it was Basque but I wasn't sure. One time I was working in a radio station here in Miami and a Spaniard from the Canary Isles Isle told me that the first 4 letter of my name meant "Apple" and that it may be Galician. I did some research and find out that is Asturian and went on the web and even found out that there is "Casa Rural" in Cases Aviles named the La Casa Pumariega. I sent the an email and the manager told me that the name meant in asturian " Apple Orchad" so I finally figure out the source of my name and my heritage. I have never been to Spain but if I get a change will certainly visit the Casa La Pumariega. Their website is WWW.LAPUMARIEGA.COM.
