Hello
I just found your site and was happy to see there is a website dedicated to Asturian immigrants.
Over the years, I've tried to get some information regarding my Grandfather, but at least I would like to find something about the history of the surname Arenas.
My Grandfather and his brothers were from Oviedo in Asturias. They emigrated to Tampa, Florida and they all were involved in the cigar industry of Ybor City.
Angel Juan Arenas (grandfather) - birth 5/18/1892 - died 1973
Ceferino Arenas (great uncle) - no birthdate, but died in 1933
Maximiliano Arenas (great uncle) no birthdate or year of death
I don't expect to get detailed information, but anything would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Michael Arenas

Hi Michael and welcome!
The Asturian surname Arenas originated in the town of Arenas, in the county of Cabrales. Our expert on Cabrales is Berodia, who still lives in that wonderful valley.
