I don't know when the first Asturians became cattle farmers and shepherds, but I'm sure that they drove their livestock to the summer pastures up in the mountains from the beginning. This is probably one of the most ancient traditions in our land and one of the most beautiful sights for anyone, especially for children. I saw my first one when I was 3 years old. Relatives of ours and their neighbours from La Riera (Colunga) drove their cows to the communal pastures of Mount Sueve and little me, being of a gregareous nature, cried because I couldn't go with them.

No sé cuándo los primeros asturianos se convirtieron en ganaderos y pastores, pero estoy segura que llevaban a su ganado a los pastos de verano en el monte desde el principio. Esta es probablemente una de las tradiciones más antiguas de nuestra tierra y una de las visiones más hermosas para cualquiera, especialmente para los niños. Yo lo ví por primera vez a los tres años. Parientes nuestros de La Riera de Colunga y demás vecinos subían sus vacas y caballos a los pastos comunales de El Sueve y la prubina de mí, gregaria por naturaleza, me quedó llorando porque no me dejaron ir con ellos.
