Terechu, you're right. Consumerism is probably our current mania in the US, that which supports the whole system.

El consumismo es también la gran "religión" de España y Europa. El ideario de las masas que hacen que el "tinglado" se sustente.

Como la religión ya no es suficiente para tener a las clases bajas sujetas, temerosas y, sobretodo, obedientes, las elites inventaron nuevos opiáceos para mantener a la chusma a raya : véase deportes, toros, culebrones, etc... La sociedad del espectáculo.
Tuvimos unos cuantos ejemplos estos días con lo del papa, lo del de Mónaco, la boda inglesa, el Hanover alcohólico, etc... Todo espectáculo para tener a las masas aborregadas mientras las elites hacen y deshacen a su antojo, con unos que dan la cara por ellos llamados "políticos".

* Una cosa es que Marx no acertó con la medicina, y otra cosa es que el diagnostico era, es, de lo más acertado. Yo me río de los que dicen que la lucha de clases no existe... cuando se habla de hacer pisos de menos de 30 m2 y al Felipe Borbón le hicieron una "casita" de 900 m2 que algún cortesano dijo que se le quedaba pequeña ahora que es el segundo marido de una ex-presentadora de telediarios.
Los escritos de Marx están más de actualidad que nunca (por lo menos desde el fin de la segunda revolución industrial) con todos esos "neocons" y demás gentuza llevando la "libertad" y la globalización neoliberal por el mundo, usando como los empresarios-esclavistas del XIX, la violencia.

I laugh at those who say that the struggle of classes does not exist ... when one speaks of making an apartment of less of 30 m2 [~1000 sq ft] and they make a "little house" of 900 m2 [30,000 sq ft] for Philippe Borbón, that some courtier has said it was a little cramped for him now that he is the second husband of a former newscaster.
Marx's writings are even more important now that (at least since the end of the second industrial revolution) all these "neocons" and other riffraff bringing "freedom" and the neoliberal version of globalization to the world, by means of violence--just likes the businessmen-slave holders of the 19th Century.
