Looking for any information on Tomas Gaurdado, all I really know is that his wife was Josphine and they had 6 children Mary, Beacenta, Ethel, Robert, Ralph & Jose Ramon. Any information would be great.

Welcome Bast1399!

Could you tell us a little more? You may not know all of this, but you must know a few more details, such as:
Where did the family live? Did they live somewhere in the US?
Where did they come from in Asturias?
Where did the couple get married?
What kind of work did they do?
What are their dates of birth and death (even approximate)?
Did the kids stay in the US? Do you know where they lived at some point in time?

Sure they lived in St. Louis in the Carondelet area however I do kind of remember my grandmother Beacenta talking about living in west Virginia for a short tme. I know Tomas Guardado my great- grandfather came over from Spain around 1913, I got that from the Ellis Island site. I am almost positive that my Great grandmother Josephenia maiden name was Fernandez. I am almost 100% sure that they did come from Asturias. I know that Tomas died in 1931 in St. Louis & as far as I know all their children still live in the St. Louis area. I would really like to see if I still have any relations still in Spain. I hope this will help.

Oh, that's good.

Often there's useful info in the Ellis Island records. What else does your family's records say? Does it say where they came from?

O.K. according to the Ellis Island site it says he was from Aviles, Spain

I'm guessing that the Castilian spelling of your great grandparents' first names would be Tomás and Josefina.

Do the Ellis Island records list any other names for them? Usually Spaniards have at least two last names.

Josefina could also be Josefa, the most common female version of Jose in English.

And "Beacenta" could be surely "Vicenta", the female version of Vicente (Vincent) 8)

Hello, I just read your message and am new in this forum. My grandmother was from Avilés, and was named Acacia Guardado de la Vega and she had several siblings. One of them, Armando, emigrated to Virginia (Virginia Occidental?) but there was another named Thomas, of whom I know nothing.

Can you help me with this? Do you have more information to compare?

Hi Art.

I'm trying to help Paula Nuñez finding her Grandmother's brother Armando, Tomas, y possible Jose Guardado, and this is what I founded so far.

Armando Guardado, migrated to Harrison, West Virginia in 1915 followed by wife Florentina Hevia, and small daughter, Olga. In the Ellis Island records I could only find Florentina Hevia arrival in the 1916 and in the same line shows the name of her husband Armando whose last name is misspelled and showed as Guardano. Armando last name has been misspelled and I belive is the reason why he doesn't shows in the Ellis Island records. Then I proceeded to search the 1920 US Census records and his last name is once more spelled wrong as Gurdado, however, the census shows his arrival to the USA as 1915. Neither Paula or myself could find Armando or his family in the 1930 census. Armando and his family lived in Harrison County, Coal District 70, West Virginia, and they had three kids: Olga, Hugo, and Agata (Agatha).
His brother Tomas Guardado appears in Ellis Island, and the census of 1920, and 1930 as well with his entire family. The 1920 census shows Thomas and his family living in Harrison County, Coal District 70, West Virginia. In the 1930 shows the same family with new members as living in St. Louis, Missouri. Is plenty of information about this family. I noticed the name of the children has been translated to English, showing their first boy's name, Ramon, as Raymond; Rafael as Raphael, and so on. As far as Jose Guardado is a little more difficult to follow the clues because a Jose Guardado declared to immigration agent the name and address of his immediate family as his uncle Jose Guardado with identical first and last name as his. You can guest correctly if you think they were living in West Virginia, also.

It is my understanding that Paula Nuñez and the other person you are trying to help whose nickname is bast1399 are looking for the same family. Bast1399 mentioned he is a grandson of Vicenta (Bizenta) Guardado, one of Thomas and Josephine Guardado daughters.

Hola Art.
