Well I have learned quite a lot since my first post to this sight. I have so much information now and it has taken me two months just to put it together. I still have not found out what happened to my grandfather but I am hoping if I list a few of the names I will be able to find some family that may be still living or someone who knows more than I have. Here are the names, my grandfather was Oscar Asturias y Moreno, His father was Joaquin Asturias y arroyave and mother Luz Moreno, then Franciso Asturias y Valdes and Paula Arroyave, Miguel Ignacio Asturias and Gertrudis Valdes, then Miguel Alvarez de Asturias y Montufar and Josefa de Arroyave y Mencos, then Joseph Alvarez de Asturias y Bravo and Manuela de Montufar, then Sancho Alvarez de Asturias y Nava and Manuela Bravo de la Serna and finally Fernando Alvarez de Asturias y Nala and Maria de doriga Asturias y Valdes. Also if anyone knows where we originally lived that would be great. I am not sure but I think it was Oviedo.

Do you have approximate birth and death dates for any of your ancestors? If you do, especially for the more recent generations, it would be an enormous help to those who have immediate access to the registro civil, or to you if you write to the registro civil on your own.

Records in the registro civil go back to 1871 or so. Parish record may go back muc further in time.

As I'm sure you already know, Asturias was once known at the province of Oviedo, so Oviedo can refer either to the city or to the entire province. Do you know which is the case for your information concerning your ancestors?
