aliel.lu – alert – alerta

Post by is »

aliel.lu: pronounced with the ‘ts’ sound of West Asturian as ah-LIEH-tsoo. Adxetivu (adjective). Alert, quick-witted, circumspect, heedful, observant, vigilant, spry, on guard, ready to bolt as in a wary animal that senses danger. Also denotes an animated, sometimes even an excessively agitated individual.
Similar in meaning to sollerte (pronounced soh-YEIR-teh), of more common usage in Central Asturian as in ‘Tate sollerte pola carretera!’ (Be careful driving!)
Usage examples (West Asturian):
Parei aliel.lu cumu un esquilu. Parei aliel.la cumu una rapousa. (I stopped dead on my tracks like a squirrel. I stopped dead on my tracks like a fox.)
Ta bien aliel.lu, nun se-y escapa una! (He’s pretty sharp; he catches all details/jokes on the fly!)
