Hi everybody!
I am Koke from Aviles, I am staying in Fredericksburg, VA untill december 07. I am very fond of folk music, and play guitar and bouzouki. I have seen some of your pictures playing gaita... do you ever meet to play, or just for fun? If you do, maybe one day I could join you and meet you personally. Anyways, I will keep an eye on the "events" part of your forum.

Saludos.

Hi, Koke,

We've gotten together for the two Asturian conferences and for a film opening (for "AsturianUS", Luis Argeo's documentary).

There are also some of us who participate in Celtic festivals by promoting Asturian culture, but there is only one more this fall, and we won't have a tent. (I think Alfonso will be simply walking around the Maryland Renaissance festival in his traje asturiana.)

But your question makes we wonder if we could do something in the DC area while you're here. Any ideas, anyone?

What are you doing in Fredericksburg, Koke?

-----------------------------

Hola, Koke,

Thanks Ron! It is good to be between asturianus :)

Art, I am here because of my job (electronic technician) learning new stuff, but I have brought my bouzouki just in case. Sometimes I go to the irish session in DC, monday nights in Nanny O'brians, and although they don't play any asturian tunes there :) I always have a very good time.

I have seen there is a centro asturiano in new York, is there any other?

Yes, there is at least one Centro Asturiano in NY. Bob knows a bit more about them. , I think. Miami and Tampa (Florida), and I think Los Angeles also have Centros Asturianos. There may be others, too. Most of us live in places where there isn't one locally.

That's a long ride to DC for the Irish session!

The Centro Asturiano in Tampa has a gorgeous building and once had its own hospital as well. The New York Centro has social activities, but no building of its own.

hi Koke: Let me know when you're going next to Nanny O'Brien's on a Monday and I'll meet you there with another Asturian friend. Anyone else in DC (or nearby) should also feel invited. Is that the Irish pub in front of the 3 Provinces in Cleveland Park?
