escachar: pronounced Es-kah-CHAR. Verbu (verb). To break wood, bone, glass or metal into pieces, as with a crushing blow. To break apart into fragments or 'cachos'. To shatter something or to weaken it until it is insubstantial.

Synonyms at break, shatter, crack, fragment, smash, snap, splinter, crush, sever, fracture, fragmentize, scrunch. By extension, to weaken or refute someone’s ideas or opinions, as to shatter someone’s dreams.

Usage examples:

El nenu escachóu’l xarru. (The kid shattered the vase).
La xarra escachóu al secar al sol. (The jug shattered after drying out in the sun)
El platu escachóuse. (The dish cracked)
Aú ta’l nenu? Ta escachando ablanos. (Where’s the kid? He’s cracking hazelnuts)
L’aire ta escachando las folas. (The wind is causing spindrift on top of the waves)
Sou pai siempre escachara-y los planes al fiu pa estudiar inxeniería en Xixón. (His father always shattered his son’s dreams to study engineering in Xixon)
