Me ha sorprendido recibir una llamada del Prof. Ferreiro de Nova University, si seguiamos interesados en celebrar el simposio asturiano 2008 sobre el mes de mayo, les dije que si, que todo seguia igual. Quedo en que me confirmaria en unos dias. No quise desperdiciar la ocasion que tanto trabajo nos ha costado. Espero vuestras noticias para saber como lo ven y poder seguir adelante!!!

It has surprised to me to receive a call from Prof. Ferreiro of Nova University, asking if we are still interested in celebrating an Asturian symposium in May of 2008. I said "yes", that everything is still the same. He is supposed to confirm this with me in several days. I did not want to waste the opportunity given that so much work has gone into this. I look forward to hearing from you to find our if you can come and to be able to move ahead!

I don't have a lot of experience with these things, but I think we need to ask several questions.

• Will there be a theme for the conference? (There probably should be.)
• Who does he envision being the speakers? Will it include college professors?
• Who will invite potential speakers?
• Will representatives from Asturias be invited?
• Is Nova University supporting this conference?
• Is there any cost to participants or our "organization"?

I'd be curious about professor Ferreiro's interest in the conference. It's a lot of work if he doesn't have a research interest in Asturian culture or emigration. Or perhaps he has Asturian family connections?

Although I realize that Asturians often organize things like this on the spur of the moment successfully, it feels like a very short period of time to get things ready. But it was the same with the jornadas asturianas in NYC in 2007 and that was fine.

As Hilda said, if this is going to fly, we'll need to prepare a list of sponsors and presenters and get everyone on board quickly.

No tengo mucha experiencia con estas cosas, sino que pienso que necesitamos plantear varias preguntas.

• ¿Habrá un tema para la conferencia? (Probablemente lo necesita.)
• ¿Quién preve él ser los presentadores? ¿Incluirán a profesores de universidad?
• ¿Quién invitará a los presentadores potenciales?
• ¿Serán invitados los representantes de Asturias?
• ¿La universidad de la Nova está apoyando esta conferencia?
• ¿Hay un costo a los participantes o a nuestra "organización"?

Sería interesante saber cuál interés tiene profesor Ferreiro en la conferencia. Es mucho trabajo si no tiene un interés en la investigación en la cultura o la emigración asturiana. ¿O quizás tiene conexiones asturianas familiares?

Aunque realizo que a menudo asturianos organizan cosas como esto repentinamente con éxito, a mí me parece un plazo corto para planear todos las cosas. Pero con las jornadas de NYC en 2007 fue lo mismo y tuvo éxito.

Como dice Hilda, si esto va a tener éxito, necesitaremos elaborar una lista de patrocinadores y presentadores y confirmar su participación rápidamente.
