vergoña – shame - vergüenza

vergoña: pronounced Ver-GOWNE-yah. Sustantivu (noun). Self-conscious distress. The shame or painful feeling arising from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper or ridiculous, especially if made public. The disgrace associated with embarrassment, dishonor, guilt or damage to one’s reputation.

Synonyms at abashment, chagrin, discomfiture, discomposure, dishonor, disrepute, humiliation, ignominy, opprobrium, reproach, mortification.

Usage examples:

La probe muyer enxamas nun deprendiera a escribir y tenia vergoña d’ello. [The poor woman never learned how to write and was ashamed of it]

A min dame vergoña falar en publicu. [I’m embarrassed about public speaking].
