Yes, they exist and are used, mostly by people forced to find a living beyond Asturias (the famous 'urban myths' of the long-term Asturian president, Vicente A. Areces).

People often refer to Asturias when they are far away as:

La Tierrina

A rhetorical question when locals see relatives return to Asturias on vacation: Como tira la tierrina, eh?

More along the lines of an epithet, and often in relation to the immobility of contemporary Asturian society, the anesthesia-like symptoms it exhibits as a result of the clientelist networks of the FSA (the unreformed wing of the PSOE in Asturias):

El Principeu

[a play on words derived from 'El Principau', or the Principality, only here the ending -peu is a reference to 'fart']

The media in Asturias, especially the FSA-controlled TPA (Asturian public television), in order to dilute nationalistic tendencies, resorts to calling it la region. Imagine instead of 'Freistaat Bayern' they simply began to call it 'die Region'. Would Bavarians feel shunned?

Trans. Is

Another couple of them are

Paraíso Natural - We often are refered because the beauty of our land, compared to a natural paradise which it truly is :D.

Piojo Verde (Green Scale) - Very few people have nowadays knowledge of this nickname for Asturias. I can only say it was more known in the final years of Franco and that it had strong politic connotations: Asturias is a very small region and green region, but however we have been a big nuissance for those who wanted to submit us.

Not a good one, briefing . :P

Ha! "Piojo verde" is a good one. I'd translate it "green louse."

Piojo/piojos (lice) is one of my favorite Castilian words!

¡Ja! "Piojo verde" es fantástico. Traduciría como "green louse".
