abellugu: pronounced Ah-bay-YOO-gooh. In West Asturias, abel.lugu, pronounced with the ‘ts’ sound as Ah-bay-TSOO-gooh. A noun that describes a place to take cover from bad weather or protect from danger.

An abellugu / abel.lugu can be a simple mountain construction with a single pitch to provide shelter from the elements. Synonyms at cover, den, hideout, lean-to, makeshift, retreat, sanctuary, shelter.

Word variants at belugu or bilugu (County Teberga).The verb form is abellugar / abel.lugar. As an adverb, it is used in the expression tar al abellugu [to be sheltered].
