Karina.

My name is Karina and I'm from Argentina. I'm looking for relatives or for people who may have known the Rodriguez Fernandez family who lived in the village of Pomar in County Ayande/Allande, Asturias, between 1880 and 1960. The parents' names were Vicente and Teresa and they had 8 children: Manuel, Jesus, Jose, Salvador, Dolores, Emilia (my grandmother), Balbina and Valentina.

Any information you may have will be invaluable.

Big hug,

Karina.

Saludinos!

Thank you very much, for your answer, and all the information you gave me. I have more details about my relatives, let's see if it helps...
The house where my family lived used to be a kind of post office at that time, and one of my grandma's brothers, Manuel, was in charge of it.
Another brother, José was a teacher and Jesús was a "tenedor de libros" what would be an accontant nowadays... Salvador, died when he was a child, and the four sisters took care of the house.
My grandma, Emilia always talked about her home and the beauty of that place, I really hope someday I could see it.

regards, and again....THANKS!!!!

Well, I think your Grandma Emilia was very right when she asserted that Pumar was a beautiful place. It truly is. It's in the part of County Ayande/Allande that looks over toward the snowcapped mountains of Cangas del Narcea. In fact, that valley of Ablaniel.la runs parallel to another valley that is already in Cangas.

There's a semi-rivalry between the people of La Puela (Pola de Allande) and Bisuyu/Besullo (Cangas del Narcea). A friend tells me that as soon as people from La Puela got off their carts in Bisuyu, the fights started. A group of us from Ayande were there recently...and nothing happened to us. They speak the same kind of Asturian we do, so they hardly noticed we were 'foreigners'.

Anyway, here goes a picture from 2 years ago of the village of Iboyu, I think. Your Grandma Emilia's village of Pumar is further down the valley. But it will give you an idea of what the landscape is like. I'll find out soon enough who your family is and will post a note here on the forum. County Ayande is very small and everybody knows each other...
