Hi,
My name is Donna Sweeney. I am the granddaughter of Donato Artimez Menendez and Florentina Verdin Artimez. My grandparents were Asturian immigrants from the coastal town of Salinas. They immigrated to Saint Louis first, but they relocated to Clarksburg WV, Donora PA, and finally San Diego, California. My grandfather worked in a foundry until he went to San Diego. There he worked as a gardener on a Military base.
I grew up in San Diego. I am a graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. I spent 10 years in the US Army. I left the Army 12 years ago. I am married to an Army Officer and we have two little boys.
I enjoy genealogy. I love helping people who are getting started in Genealogy. I especially like helping people from in Spain search for their relatives in the USA. I do this because the people of Asturias have helped me greatly in my family search.
Unfortunately, I speak almost no Spanish. It was not spoken in my household since my father does not understand the language.
This forum has been a great help in my genealogy search!
Take care,
Un cordial saludo
