I would like to find any information possibly regarding:
The Town of Morcin - Asturias
The Town of San Sebastian - Asturias
The war that pushed many to send their young sons to the Americas during the years 1910 – 1914 approximately, what war was responsible? Is there a list, organization or other forum to find out more about this?
Surnames of families in Morcin, San Sebastian and vicinities Alvarez/Gomez/Fernandez
Why would my grandfather list and mention Oviedo as his place of birth when he was born in Morcin

What I know about my ancestry in Asturias is as follows:
Amador Alvarez Alvarez was my grandfather
He was born in Morcin on April 24, 1900
At the time of his birth the family may have lived in La Foz
He emigrated to Cuba at age 13
Arrived in Cuba on May 1, 1913 on the steam boat Alfonso XII

His parents were cousins:
Father: Emilio Alvarez born in San Sebastian
Emilio was the son of Jose Alvarez and **Nora Gomez, (**difficult to understand in birth certificate)
Mother: Isabel Alvarez daughter of Fabian Alvarez and Maria Fernandez
I believe that Emilio and Isabel were deceased by 1940
My grandfather died at age 56 in Cuba

I have his birth certificate and would like to find his baptismal records, any possible information about my great grandparents, such as where they may be buried, lived, relatives, etc. I would like to continue my search and someday visit Asturias.

My grandfather had 6 or 7 brothers and sisters, two where twins, the twins and one other brother died in a war.

His obituary lists possible names of his brothers and sisters:
Maria Alvarez Alvarez
Jaime Alvarez Alvarez
Manuel Alvarez Alvarez
Aurelio Alvarez Alvarez
Alfredo Alvarez Alvarez

Welcome to the forum!

This message explains the meaning of "Oviedo":

The war our grandparents wanted to avoid was in Morocco. There were a series of "Rif Wars" fought from 1893 to 1926. There were three Rif Wars: 1893-94, 1909-10, and 1920-26, but during this entire period there was continuous conflict, much of it brutal. The Spaniards were often poorly trained and equipped and their officer corps is said to have been corrupt.

If your grandfather was born in Morcín, then his baptism certificate could be in a church there, or even in data held in Oviedo. Try this first:

If you really want to search for the records of your great-grandparents, the best solution would be to go yourself and allow several days or even a week to do the research. You'll also want to be sure to go when the offices you need aren't on vacation.

The town you're looking for is "La Foz de Morcín", since Morcín is the county, and there are other towns called La Foz i other counties.

The Registry for Morcín is as follows

Registro Civil - Ayuntamiento de Morcin
Av. de Pumarín, 3
33162 Santa Eulalia - Morcín - Asturias
Tel.: 34-985 78 31 78
Fax: 34-985 78 31 92

They are a small office and very helpful. If you call, they will surely try to help. I know the librarian there.
